The Manchester School District, Manchester, New Hampshire, Board of School Committee, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2019. McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of School Committee in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 13,803

Location: 60 miles north of Boston

The Qualifications: The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics.

  • Be a strong, apolitical, collaborative, leader who has the ability to take charge while working within the policies and directives of the district.
  • Possess strong leadership skills and be a team player who can develop positive, productive, relationships with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrate an ability to motivate and relate to the staff and members of the community, generating a sense of trust and collegiality.
  • Possess outstanding communication skills with staff, Board of School Committee, and community
  • Be an approachable individual who is comfortable with communicating effectively and regularly with a diverse population.
  • Be willing to remain in the position for 5+ years
  • Possess the thick skin and backbone to make decisions in the best interests of students and the Manchester School District.

Requirements: A Doctorate degree is preferred but not required Search Timeline:

  • Board of School Committee selects finalists to interview: May 6, 2019
  • Interviews with the Board of School Committee: May 16, 2019
  • Selection of new Superintendent: May 16, 2019
  • Start date: July 1, 2019
